As we come into the holiday season, many salon owners are taking this chance to break from business, rest, relax and recuperate ahead of what is sure to be a huge year in 2018.
For those salon owners who aren’t prepared, this season can be an incredibly stressful time. We know that your staff want to take leave, you need a break and your customers need to know what days they can and cannot book their appointments – it’s a lot to handle. So, we have for you here a complete checklist for salon closures this silly season – make a version for your salon, check it twice, and make sure that you end up on the nice side of this Christmas and new year break.
Annual Leave
We gave you a range of tips around getting annual leave right for all your staff last week on our blog, which you can read again here if you missed it. But it’s important to note that all permanent staff MUST be given at least 4 weeks’ notice to take annual leave during a shutdown period – as we advised you of back in November. If you haven’t given your staff leave but you are proceeding with a shutdown, we recommend that you call HABA immediately to ensure that you are covered legally to do so.
Closure + Reopening Dates
All staff should be clearly informed of the closing and reopening dates and times for the salon. Whether it’s on your team noticeboard, on your salon social media or spoken about during a weekly wrap, make sure your staff know which days the salon is open and which dates it is closed to ensure that you are not left stranded when it’s time to reopen.
Roster for reopening
Book your roster for your salon reopening NOW. Your staff will already have begun to book their time away and it will only cause headaches if you leave it too much longer. The sooner you issue the roster the sooner you can guarantee everyone will be on a normal work schedule and it’s one less headache to worry about during your salon break.
Inform security
If you have security for your salon, it’s a good idea to let the company know that you will be having a shutdown period, just in case. Most security companies have at least a skeleton crew on during the Christmas period, so they can keep an eye on the salon appropriately during this time.
Christmas Closures are really necessary for salon owners, who often need a bit of a break from being constantly on, running the business. But they are only going to be relaxing if you are prepared. If you are feeling a bit behind this holiday season, the team at HABA can help you to get back on top with our templates for salon shutdown notices, Annual Leave application forms and new Payroll software for a fresh new year – but it’s only available to members. Become a member of the organisation that helps you have a great Christmas in 2017 and join HABA today.
