Job Active is an initiative run by the Australian Government to get more Australians into work, no matter their age, demographic or background. Job Active is a web platform that connects job seekers with employers across a range of industries from hair and beauty to hospitality, automotive and finance. It is one of the few services geared towards not only youth, but also to people aged 50 and older who still have much to give the work environment but are often overlooked for positions.


Job Active also offers salon owners the opportunity to advertise their vacant positions to thousands of candidates at absolutely no cost to you – perfect if you, like many salon owners, are struggling to find applicants to fill roles. Their approach to tailored recruitment service means that your Job Active service provider will come and consult with you and your business about your specific business needs, help find the right candidate for your business while also providing support while employees settle in to the business, allowing you a point of contact at all times throughout the recruitment process. This alleviates a huge chunk of the stress and risk associated with bringing a new member of staff into your business and can save you many sleepless nights.


There is a range of financial subsidies available to salon owners who take on staff through the Job Seeker initiative, offered as an incentive to hire and retain new employees from a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and demographics. Up to $10,000 (GST inclusive) is available for salon owners who take on new employees between 15 and 25 years of age or 50 years of age and older. Up to $6,500 (GST inclusive) is available for new employees who are aged between 25 and 29 years of age or who are parents, Indigenous Australians or individuals who are registered with an employment services provider for 12 months or more.
