Business parties are a great way to get employees together to celebrate the year’s milestones and encourage collaboration together heading into the future. The Salon Christmas Party is usually the highlight of the year, offering the team a chance to blow off some steam, to connect as people rather than as workmates and generally celebrate the year. But for a salon owner, the Christmas Party can present a whole host of worries and concerns that really put a damper on this time of year.
But have no fear! HABA is here to help you plan the best Christmas party for your amazing staff, and assist you in celebrating the year that was with no mess no fuss and no liability concerns.
TOP 5 TIPS FOR A GREAT SALON CHRISTMAS PARTY:
- Start with a team meeting
Sit your team down and have a bit of a chat about the Christmas Party. Ask for their input into what they would like to do (which everyone appreciates) and use this as a platform to talk about general concerns, like what kind of images are appropriate for social media during this time, remind them of your work policies and the consequences of breaching those policies. Then when confirming the Christmas Party details with everyone, reiterate these points in an email to ensure that all items are clear to everyone. - Create the right environment
Having a classy night out comes with its own set of social rules which can help ensure that nothing gets totally out of hand. Take your staff out for a nice dinner, ask them to dress up and you are likely to have a completely different kind of party than if you take them to the pub and have an open bar. Similarly, a lunch time event makes for everyone being a bit more relaxed and casual, particularly when alcohol is involved, as opposed to a dinner where people typically drink more. The kind of party you host will help influence the behaviour of your staff. - Keep an eye on your people
We all want to relax and have a good time, but as the owner of the business it is better for you to keep an eye on your staff, how much they are drinking and how they are interacting to ensure that everyone has a great time. Don’t get so caught up in enjoying yourself that your staff suffer in any way. - Get everyone home safe.
Making sure that everyone gets home safe is a great idea and will make you an absolute stand-out boss in the eyes of your staff. Consider organising transport for after the party, or host the function at a venue where employees can easily access public transport to make their own way home. Your staff will be safe and you don’t have to worry about everyone getting home in one piece. It’s a win-win situation. - Understand your liability
Make sure that you understand the liabilities that events like Christmas Parties can put you under as a business owner. The more you know, the better you can plan for problematic issues and the better you can prevent them from happening.
