With the new updates coming into effect across Australia this weekend, we thought it would be a good time to revisit the Covid restrictions and rules of each State and Territory.
We have linked to the appropriate government website, so if there are any questions more resources are available for salon owners.
These notes are accurate as of 26 March 2021 – but as we have seen, things continue to change, so please keep up to date via our social media channels for the latest information.
NSW COVID Update – From Monday 29 March 2021
- Masks are not required in salons
- 1 person per 2 square metres (venues will be allowed at least 25 people before the 2 square metre rule applies)
- Businesses and other organisations must continue to ensure they keep accurate records of all attendances, including through QR Codes, to enable fast contact tracing in the event of any community transmission
- Businesses and venues must be registered for, and using, the

Queensland
- 1 person per 2 square metres

Victoria COVID Update – From 6pm Friday 26th March 2021
- Masks are no longer required in retail settings
- 1 person per 2 square metres
- Businesses and venues must be registered for, and using, the Services VIC App or a government API-linked digital system (venues will have a 28-day compliance amnesty)

South Australia
- 1 person per 2 square metres
- Must take reasonable steps to maintain 1.5m physical distancing
- Contact tracing required

Western Australia

- It is mandatory to maintain a contact register by collecting contact details of patrons attending their premises, including customers, staff, contractors, and visitors
- Records of visitors can (not mandatory) still be collected through the SafeWA App
Tasmania
- 1 person per 2 square metres
- Contact tracing required
- From 1 May 2021 Tasmanians and visitors will be required to use the Check-In TAS app when they visit these places

Northern Territories
- Contact tracing required
- All businesses are required to lodge a COVID-19 Safety Plan by filling out the relevant checklists available
- Records of visitors can (not mandatory) still be collected through the Territory Check-In App
