NSW Covid-19 Restrictions for Hair + Beauty Salons

Posted May 7, 2021

New Covid-19 restrictions have come into place for NSW Residents from 5pm Thursday 6 May 2021 until 12.01am Monday, 10 May 2021, and some have a direct impact on salon owners.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the three day restrictions would help reduce the risk of a super spreading event.“These measures are proportionate to the risk and will help reduce further cases of community transmission,” Ms Berejiklian said.“To allow our health authorities to do their excellent work it is critical the community continues to keep their physical distance, get tested with even the mildest of symptoms and importantly continues to use the Service NSW app to check into venues.”

From 5pm Thursday 6 May 2021 until 12.01am Monday, 10 May 2021 the following rules and restrictions apply to the Greater Sydney region (including the Blue Mountains and the local government areas of Wollongong and the Central Coast).

These rules apply for both staff members and patrons of your business.

At this time, hair and beauty business ARE NOT required to close, however these restrictions do create issues around some services like Facials + Waxing services in the beauty industry.
As with previous restrictions, beauticians are allowed to remove the mask of the client for any facial treatments only. Masks must be worn otherwise.

Masks are compulsory in indoor areas of retail premises or business premises that provide goods or services to members of the public, such as nail salons, and entertainment facilities including cinemas, theatres and concert halls.

Masks do not have to be worn by staff who do not deal directly with members of the public. Masks must be worn unless there is a permitted reason not to wear a mask.

Salon owners must not allow more than 25 people on the premises if the size of the premises is insufficient to ensure at least 2 square metres of space for each person.

A COVID Safe Plan, registered with NSW Health, is required for our entire industry, including those offering Beauty Services, Hairdressing Salons, Massage parlours and Spa, Nail, Waxing and tanning salons.

If you haven’t already, or if your plan has changed, please see below resources to get a Covid-Safe Plan in place.
