The Christmas period is one of the busiest for salons and salon owners – whether it’s clients wanting to get their nails and tans done ahead of summer or clients coming in for an extra blow dry ahead of their work Christmas party, it’s always one of the busiest periods of the year. And for staff, that means extra hours, extra work, extra pressure and that can really start to take a toll on your team and the salon morale overall.


As salon owners, having been in the business for years, you know that the extra work is just part of the season. But it’s always a good idea at this time of year to incentivise and reward your team, both to ensure that you that you hit your targets for Christmas sales and so that your team have something to work towards for themselves. It’s important to acknowledge the great work that your team do over the Christmas season, so here are some simple ideas to treat your staff.


Staff Dinner

Treat your staff to a night out on you in January to celebrate the work they have done during the Christmas period specifically. While most salons host a Christmas Party for their teams in the last week of November, this is generally a celebration for the year before. Something specifically dedicated to the work done during the Christmas Period illustrates to your team how much you appreciate their work during the Christmas period specifically and gives everyone a chance to decompress about the season.


Sales Competitions

Whether you have gift packs from your suppliers or Christmas Offers that you want to move during the period, encourage your team with a little healthy competition and a prize they will really appreciate at the end of it. Put up a sheet in your staff area where they can publicly see what packages or offers each team member has sold and offer a great prize for the winner – whether it’s a nice bottle of bubbles or a weekend off to be used at their leisure or a pamper treatment at another salon, treat your team and increase your sales at the same time!


Christmas Bonus

Some salons have taken to offering a flat rate Christmas Bonus for their staff to say thank you. Everyone appreciates cash or a gift card, and this is the simplest way to say thank you to your staff during this period. We recommend it being equal an even across your entire team – we are all in the mess together during the Christmas Period – if you are going to go with this reward method.


The most important thing you can do during the Christmas period is to make sure that your salon remains a happy and positive place. While the season can be incredibly hectic, it’s a joyous time of year and we all want to survive this period! Put up decorations, encourage your team to dress up if that’s their thing, play Christmas Carols and get everyone in the festive spirit. Christmas is always going to be hectic in salon, but it doesn’t have to be dull or depressing.
